Shiatsu

What is Shiatsu?

Shiatsu is a traditional form of massage originating in Japan. 'Shia' means finger and 'tsu' means pressure. It follows the energetic meridian and acupressure points system in the body, and a massage consists of various techniques including kneading, pressing, holding, tapping and stretching. It involves gentle manipulation of your body and is a very nourishing and holistic form of massage. It re-energises weak areas of the body and releases tension in others. Shiatsu supports your body's innate healing abilities and promotes a sense of relaxation and well being.

The session

As a collaborative healing modality, we begin by sitting together, and I invite you to share your hopes and expectations for the treatment. This allows for a unique and tailored session to honour the needs of your whole being; nurturing your physical, emotional and energetic experience.

I’ve been working with Shiatsu for 25 years, and this allows me to respond very sensitively and intuitively to whatever your whole being is needing in the moment, and as such, each session could be quite different. My role is to support you to connect to your essence, and allow you to draw on you own unique wisdom. I work intuitively with my spirit guides and welcome support from your spirit helpers too, and often channel wisdom and information from your higher self to support the session.

The massage is performed fully clothed on a cosy futon on the floor, with plenty of blankets and cushions to support you to sink into a space of relaxation and receptivity. Please wear loose comfortable long sleeved clothing, with no jeans or thick waistband or belt.

My Training

I gained my diploma in Shiastu after completing a three-year training with the Devon School of Shiatsu in 2002. The school has since developed into a wider educational body now called the International Macrobiotic School, where I now teach Shiatsu.

In 2006, I went on to complete a post graduate training of Shiatsu for pregnant women and women's reproduction health issues in Bristol with Suzanne Yates from Wellmother. Following this training, my experience includes working as a Shiatsu practitioner with individual clients and expectant couples; sharing matrescence skills with midwives, doulas and birth partners. I further trained with Wellmother as a Shiatsu teacher in 2008.

In addition, I expanded my skills to include Equine Shiatsu with an emphasis on Shiatsu for Horse and Rider with Sue Hicks at the Rosewell Centre in 2013.
